What are we doing?

Our general research interests are in the areas of biophotonics, microfluidics, microfabrication, and transport phenomena in human body. We are working at the interface of medical science and engineering, striving to develop novel tools to solve biomedical problems.

Typically, we are developing functional Optical Coherence Tomography(OCT) and Endoscope.

Functional Optical Coherence Tomography(OCT) is a noninvasive optical platform that allows cross-sectional imaging of tissue structure, blood flow, and birefringence simultaneously with high spatial resolution. The unique capability of OCT to noninvasively explore microstructure, flow, and birefringence within turbid media using nonionizing radiation has opened the door to applications such as optical biopsy, surgical guidance, studies of developmental biology, and quality control of microfluidic components in situ.

Endoscope is the most essential device for surgical guidance using OCT. We  design novel microendoscopes as a diagnostic and therapeutic tool. This technology works for not only early diagnosis of cancer and other diseases but also laser treatment. We are focusing on a multimodal approach encompassing white light, OCT, ultrasound, and confocal/multiphoton microscopy.
